Genesis: Day 3

Genesis 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

The dry land appeared out of the water. The land rose up out of the water, separating the land from the seas.

Here’s an interesting side thought. God said, and it was so. This world is a creative miracle of God. Creative miracles are not difficult for God. The word of God, the living word that proceeds from Him, will always produce a creative miracle. But that word must first be released. This natural world we live in will respond to His word, for it was created by and is even now upheld by the power of His word. The word will never fail to produce, because it produces by the working of the Spirit of God.

How do we get the word of God in us? Generally speaking, we get the word of God through meditation in the scriptures. But more specifically let me say that the word of God comes to us or is received by us as we ponder on the written word until bits of truth begin to dawn on us. Peter put it this way:

2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed , as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Peter is saying in this scripture that if we take heed to, give attention to, incline our ears to the scriptures as unto a light shining in a dark place, then at some point in our meditations of the word the day will dawn and light will come.

Let’s go back to Genesis.

Genesis 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

At this point in the story God has made DAY, NIGHT, HEAVEN, EARTH, and SEAS. At each step in the process He did a quality-control check and looked at what He had done and He saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:11 And God said , Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Grass, herbs, and fruit. All three of these yield seeds after their kind and all three provide food for men and animals. God created a suitable environment for these to come forth. All life would be sustained by them and they would reproduce themselves generation after generation. The fruit as well as the seeds also in many cases provide food for the present. The seeds provide food for the next year and so on. The seed represents the hope for the next year or the next generation. The seed must be sown to produce the future yield. I’ll refrain from talking about tithing and giving, even though this would be a good place. The system God set up provided more seed than was needed for present food, and so provided for the future. Remember this. The future is in the seed.

The important point is that God set this system up to be a self-sustaining system, providing for both present and future generations. The Bible says that God opens His hand and satisfies the desire of every creature. This blade, fruit, and seed system was and is one of God's ways of opening His hand to provide. The process is hindered at times by droughts and bad weather conditions but when created it was good and worked very well.

Genesis 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

God said it and it happened, and it’s still happening today. It happened by the word of God and by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit, and it’s still happening. The process continues by the power of God. God said it, the Spirit of God performed it, and it’s still being performed by His mighty power. What a marvelous God and what a marvelous creation!

Genesis 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
